Australian Wildlife Society & BEES Scholarship

Australian Wildlife Society Postgraduate Scholarship 

The Australia Wildlife Society (AWS) in partnership with the Centre for Ecosystem Science, is offering a $5,000 scholarship open to UNSW BEES postgraduate students with research relevant to conservation of native Australian flora and fauna. All postgraduate students within the school of BEES are eligible, and encouraged, to apply. Funds can be used towards travel associated with research, fieldwork expenses, specialty software, or small pieces of equipment. 



The scholarship is available to new and existing students, full-time and part-time students, and domestic and international students. The applicant must be enrolled in a PhD or Master’s programs in BEES in one of the following research areas:

·         Ecosystem management

·         Conservation biology (species or processes)

·         Environmental science


Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the selection criteria stated below:

·         A brief research proposal directly relevant to the conservation of Australian native wildlife (flora or fauna)
           and their ecosystems

·         Well-designed project proposal positioned to achieve conservation objectives

·         Identified research outputs focused on achieving conservation outcomes

·         Academic track record

·         Demonstrated communication skills, written and oral

·         Access to funding. Projects which already appear to be adequately funded would be given a lower priority.


How to Apply

Please send an expression of interest with a proposed budget (maximum 2 pages) to postgraduate administrative officer, Jonathan Russell by May 31, 2017. Additional supporting information can be attached as separate documents (e.g. CV, academic track record). Selection will be made by Australian Wildlife Society members and Centre for Ecosystem Science staff.
